"Voice In The City" is a project that is educating children through the power of music, art, poetry, drama and movement to promote social justice and to encourage participants to have a voice and use it to stand up against gun, gangs and knife crime , to combat hate crime, to promote all that is good about Liverpool, to enhance community and personal wellbeing and to encourage children and young people to be positive role models within their communities.
Stage one of the project engaged over 6,000 children from the deprived areas of Croxteth and Norris Green and as a result 350 pupils came together from all 12 Schools within these wards to form a Choir and record a CD called “You’re The Voice”, which was released in September, 2009. They took their message to Government Ministers at the House of Commons and performed the song to the Minister of State and Policing David Hanson MP. The children performed in front of approximately 100,000 people at venues such as The Echo Arena, Anfield and Everton football grounds, COBALT’s annual tenants conference and the Anthony Walker festival. Participation in these events had a significant impact on all those involved and the memories they took from this will last a lifetime.
